While most participants, especially commissioners and advisory delegates, may find free time to be in short supply at the 220th General Assembly, those who venture out will find that Pittsburgh has much to offer.

The 35th annual Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta will take place June 30-July 4. Attractions include Lasertainment, the powerboat championships, an artificial ice rink, the Sandsational team, a kids zone, mountain bike stunts, a water ski show, an artificial beach, the Anything that Floats race, and fireworks. Concerts will also be held throughout the festivities. They include America, Abbamania, Beach Party Boys, Nomad, the United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, and the Air National Guard Band.

Country music singers Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw will play at Heinz Field for the Brothers of the Sun Tour on June 30. Special guests include Grace Potter & the Nocturnals and Jake Owen.

Several events are being held for the Fourth of July. The Heinz Field Celebration will begin at 2 p.m. Food, games, patriotic tributes, fireworks, and free concerts will fill the afternoon and evening.

The Fourth at the Fort event runs from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Fort Pitt Museum. The celebration features living history programming, musket demonstrations, and public readings of the Declaration of Independence.

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is in Pittsburgh’s Highland Park neighborhood. Exhibits include the Asian Forest, the African Savannah, and the new Water’s Edge exhibit with polar bears, sea otters, and sand tiger sharks.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will be at home to play at PNC Park from July 2-7. Their first opponent will be the Houston Astros.  The 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants will be in town July 6-7.
