Ruling Elder Luncheon: Ruling Elders as Spiritual Leaders

If you will be attending the 223rd General Assembly of the PC(USA) in St. Louis this summer, please note that there will be a luncheon for ruling elders on Wednesday, June 20 at noon. Our speaker for the gathering will be Former Moderator Joan S. Gray, author and coauthor of several books including Spiritual Leadership for Church Officers, Sailboat Church, and Presbyterian Polity for Church Leaders. Tickets can be purchased through the GA registration process with more information available here.


Errata, 2017-2019 Book of Order

The following error in the Form of Government, G-3.0301, is called to the attention of users of the 2017/2019 Book of Order: [Text inadvertently deleted is shown with an underline.]

“The presbytery is the council serving as a corporate expression of the church within a certain district and is composed of all the congregationsi and  ministers of the Word and Sacrament within that district. The presbytery shall adopt and communicate to the sessions a plan for determining how many ruling elders each session should elect as commissioners to presbytery, with a goal of numerical parity of ministers of the Word and Sacrament and ruling elders. This plan shall require each session to elect at least one commissionerj and shall take into consideration the size of congregations as well as a method ...”


Regarding Ruling Elders: A Monthly Series for Spiritual Leaders
Ruling elders logoRuling elders are elected by congregations as “persons of wisdom and maturity of faith, having demonstrated skills in leadership and being compassionate in spirit” (G-2.0301). This series will include devotional pieces, descriptions of spiritual practices, and other resources for growing as spiritual leaders and seeks to nurture the spiritual life of those serving in this role.
